W4C Urges Election Commission to Extend No-Excuse Absentee Voting
Indiana is facing its highest number of COVID-19 cases to date—and yet, as the general election nears, no plans are in place to offer Hoosiers no-excuse absentee voting.
Long voting lines, an inability to enforce social distancing and face mask usage, and variable air ventilation at polling sites puts both voters and election workers at risk. The absence of safe voting conditions presents yet another barrier to voters of color, disabled voters, and low-income voters, who are already more likely to be disenfranchised when access to voting is restricted.
As members of the Voting Rights coalition led by Vote Safe Indiana, we urge Gov. Holcomb and Secretary Lawson to call a meeting of the Indiana Election Commission by THIS FRIDAY to extend no-excuse absentee voting to the 2020 General Election. Read our full statement below.
