Our Civility Agreement

Did you know that Women4Change has a civility pledge? Civility is a central and founding tenant of our organization. It began when two Indiana women, Jennifer Nelson Williams and Rabbi Sandy Sasso, decided to create an event to convene Indiana women in response to the demeaning, sexist, and hateful rhetoric that dominated the 2016 election. They expected one hundred attendees, but a thousand arrived that night. And thus, Women4Change Indiana was born as a forum to continue respectful and civil discussions through educational programming and advocacy for women in our state.

That’s why we’re proud to have a civility pledge we use internally. It upholds our organizational value of quality discourse, and that helps us fight for a better future. Check out our pledge below.

“I pledge to be civil in my public discourse whether in agreement or disagreement.

I will respond to injustice and speak up in the presence of name-calling, stereotypes, slander and slurs.

I will do this for the sake of our children, for the healing of our country, for the future of democracy and for peace.”
