Newsletter: A Spotlight Week for Women4Change Indiana
March 15, 2024
Today marks the “Ides of March” but Women4Change is undeterred in bringing you the latest and most important updates from this week and the rest of March.
Women4Change in the News
Last week we welcomed Angela Carr Klitzsch as our new leader and CEO of Women4Change Indiana.
Learn more about Angela’s extensive background in leadership and equity in last week’s coverage in the Indiana Business Journal.
Women's History Month
Join a Women’s History Month conversation with our IUPUI Chapter on March 20th at 2pm at the Campus Center Room 306.
W4C Program Manager Kennedy Phillips shares:
“Seeing a Black woman in power inspired me to want to run for political office (something that still intrigues me, albeit probably at a local level because that’s where real change happens).”
Learn more about Women4Change’s program manager Kennedy Phillips’ why, and how the work of those who blazed our trails lives on still, today in coverage by the Journal Gazette: https://www.journalgazette.net/opinion/columnists/honor-women-of-importance-by-joining-electoral-process/article_d5af62ea-da5d-11ee-8c60-d3f0ab7e00fe.html.
International Women's Day
Last week we celebrated International Women's Day at the Statehouse with the Indiana Commission for Women.
Women4Change is part of a change-making community dedicated to fighting for what is right and fair for all women and all Hoosiers. Today, tomorrow, and always, we celebrate the brave, bold, and persistent women who dedicate themselves to making change.
Opill is Coming to a Pharmacy Near You
The FDA approved the first-ever over the counter birth control pill called Opill. The pill will be available like any other over the counter medication, and will not need a prescription for purchase. Opill is expected to be in most pharmacies by the end of March.
More on Equal Pay
Hoosier women outpace men in educational attainment but are still falling behind in pay and division of labor at home. At the present rate of economic mobility, women in Indiana will not see equal pay until 2082. What gives?
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 doesn’t go far enough to ensure equity in the areas of access, opportunity, social infrastructure, personal safety, childcare, reproductive rights, and, and, and…51 years later.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Equal pay conversations might bubble to the top of our feeds during the month of March, but the pay gap is felt every day by Hoosier women and their families. In 2023, the National Women's Law Center reported that our gender pay gap is 23%, which was the 8th highest pay gap in the country.

Breaking National Headlines
The downfall of Roe has had serious consequences for women across the country. We learned this week that women in Missouri cannot get a divorce if they are pregnant. Even in cases of violence.
The Guardian U.S. reports: https://lnkd.in/gbAMtn7r
That's why the work of Women4Change Indiana is crucial to help protect Hoosier women from policy changes which would further endanger their health, lives, and futures.
We will continue to follow this story and work to address ways to protect Hoosier women’s safety here at home.
