We will be conducting two discussion sessions on civility and consensus using several resources including the booklet Talking Politics? What You Need to Know before Opening Your Mouth by Sheila Suess Kennedy.
As Shelia states in the introduction, “This brief work contains basic facts about the US Constitution, economic concepts and systems, and the nature of science and the scientific method - that every citizen should know - facts and definitions that can serve as solid starting points from which you can build more persuasive arguments for your preferred policies, whatever they may be.”
The hope is to bring together individuals of diverse backgrounds and ideologies and identify common ground and shared values as a foundation for creating cultures and conversations that bring us together.
