April 12th: Here's what happened this week at the Indiana Statehouse
As the fifteenth full week of the 2019 legislative session comes to an end, Women4Change continues to be YOUR eyes and ears in the Indiana Statehouse.
Bills Signed into Law:
SB198 (‘Sentencing’) was signed by the Governor, without gender, gender identity, and age in the bill.
Bills on the Governor’s Desk:
HB 1211 (‘Abortion matters’)
This bill would ban the most common method used for medically necessary second trimester abortions.
SB201 (‘Health Provider Ethical Exemption’)
This bill would allow health care providers (nurses, pharmacists, etc.) to deny abortion services based on personal beliefs. This would add to Indiana’s already extensive rights to deny care.
Bills that Moved:
SB 192 (‘Nonconsensual pornography’) signed by Speaker Bosma.
SB243 (‘Nonconsensual pornography’) returned to the Senate with amendments.
HB 1547 (‘Consent to pregnancy services of a minor’) House concurred with Senate amendments.
HB1651 (‘Judicial evaluation of dangerous individuals and firearms’) passed out of the Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy.
If you can not attend a meeting at the Statehouse during the legislative session consider attending these town hall meetings.
