January 17th: Here’s what happened at the Indiana Statehouse this week

This is the second full week of the 2020 Indiana General Assembly.

  • Executive Director Rima Shahid testified in support of the first section of the original House Bill 1221, which stated that voting centers would extend voting hours from 6pm to 8pm. This part of the bill has since been stricken. Women4Change no longer supports the bill.

  • January 16th marked 100 years since Hoosier women got the right to vote. Indiana was the 26th state to ratify the 19th Amendment. Women4Change staff, board members and volunteers attended a celebration at the Statehouse, where Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch spoke. A Resolution was passed in both the House and Senate to mark the anniversary of women’s suffrage in Indiana.

  • On Thursday, January 23rd Women4Change will host a Women’s Economic Stability Press Conference with our Equality Pay$ coalition partners. Legislators of both parties will attend and speak on Hoosier Women’s economic stability.
