2020 Indiana General Assembly Legislative Session Wrap-up
The 2020 Indiana General Assembly adjourned sine die on Saturday, March 14th. To adjourn sine die means to complete the session without setting a specific date for the body to meet again.
Women4Change worked hard during the session to champion our legislative priorities. Check out our legislative wrap-up below to review some of what we accomplished during that time!
Legislative Wins
Senate Bill 146, sexual assault victims’ rights passed both chambers and is on the governor’s desk.
We worked with a coalition of organizations across the state to raise awareness about the importance of in-depth consent legislation.
We drew attention to the crisis of maternal mortality in Indiana through press coverage, committee testimony, and social media posts.
We met with legislators across the political spectrum, earning bipartisan support for a pregnancy accommodations bill.
Action Advocates
We had the support of 120 Action Advocates who served as on-call activists to contact their legislators & attend events such as bill hearings, press conferences, and rallies.
Member Advocacy
Constituents contacted their representatives 200+ times using our OneClick Politics tool.
We hosted the Women’s Economic Equality Press conference with our Equality Pay$ Coalition partners to draw attention to issues like paid family leave and pregnancy accommodations.
We collected and displayed more than fifteen hundred postcards from Hoosiers across the state that told their stories of sexual harassment and assault.
We hosted a Valentine’s Day Letter-Writing Campaign where attendees wrote dozens of letters to their legislators asking for in-depth consent legislation.
