July 9, 2010. Marvin Booker, a homeless street preacher with mental-health issues, was violently attacked and killed by five sheriff deputies inside the Denver Detention Center. The brutal beating was caught on tape by their own cameras as more than 20 people witnessed, horrified. Yet the city of Denver never indicted — nor reprimanded — any of the deputies involved. The esteemed documentary, “Marvin Booker Was Murdered,” introduces the Memphis-based Booker Family and their relentless fight through the court system to find justice. The tragic story of Marvin Booker uncovers how a city preferred to protect the “thin blue line” in the face of a citizen's constitutional rights and highlights the family ad legal team that wouldn’t give up for his sake.
